Rise in the Drug Trade

Roberts established a formidable drug empire in Alabama, maintaining its operations for approximately three decades. Her involvement in the drug trade was characterized by significant influence and connections, including ties to Mexican drug cartels. Her notoriety and the moniker "Black Widow" stemmed from her dominance and resilience in a predominantly male-dominated underworld.

Media Recognition

Roberts' life story has garnered significant media attention. She was featured in the second season of BET's docuseries "American Gangster: Trap Queens," which premiered on January 14, 2021. The series delves into the lives of women involved in street crime, highlighting their backgrounds, criminal endeavors, and subsequent transformations. Roberts' episode provides an in-depth look into her rise in the drug trade and her journey towards redemption and social justice advocacy.

Criminal Justice Reform

In 2004, Roberts faced legal repercussions for her activities, leading to a 21-year prison sentence for drug trafficking. However, she served only two years of this sentence, as she received a pardon from the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles on January 24, 2014, at the age of 49.

Following her release, Roberts underwent a profound personal transformation. She redirected her life towards advocacy, focusing on supporting individuals with felony convictions and addressing systemic issues within the criminal justice system. Her efforts have been particularly geared towards offering second chances to those seeking to rebuild their lives after incarceration.
